"Lifeline" and "Link-Up" phone service assistance programs
are available
for those consumers with low incomes.
Lifeline provides discounts on basic monthly phone service costs at a person's primary residence, while Link-Up pays half (up to $30) of residential phone line installation or wireless activation fees. Cell phone access is also available in some cases.The programs are available to qualifying individuals in every state, territory, and U.S. commonwealth. Information on these low-income programs is available through local telephone companies or state regulatory agencies.
